Linear regulators for an input voltage up to 120V as part of an
analog ASIC are offered by the German ASIC manufacturer PREMA
Semiconductor GmbH.
This regulator is able to supply the components inside the ASIC as
well as external parts like microcontrollers with a stablized low
voltage. An input voltage up to 120V peak or continuous can be
connected to the regulator.
Applications can be found in the industrial range or for consumer
electronics where often simplest mains adapters are used. The input
voltage can vary from 7V up to 120V with an output voltage of
5V.
Only small filter capacitors are necessary due to the fast response
times. An internal bandgap reference ensures an accuracy of the
output voltage of less than 1%. With a quiescent current of 50ľA,
this regulator can also be used as an analog ASIC for ultra-low
power electronics. A current limitation and a thermal overload
protection control can be integrated for circuit protection.
Where the efficiency does not demand a step-down converter, a linear
regulator offers an alternative without external coil and prevents
switching noise on the power lines.
PREMA offers designing and manufacturing of custom specific ICs for
applications in automotive, consumer and industrial electronics as
well as in building automation and telecommunications. The ModuS U6
process is suitable for analog as well as for mixed-signal circuits.
Sensors like high sensitive photo transistors and hall sensors for
magnetic fields as well as temperature sensors can be integrated
into the ASIC by using the same process. This allows a reasonably
priced one-chip solution for intelligent sensors with supply
voltages up to 120V.
