The City of Mainz |

Mainz is the home town of PREMA, situated in Germany, on the river Rhine and close to Frankfurt and its international airport. There are many books describing more than 2000 years of the history of Mainz, beginning with the Celts, the Romans (for them Mainz was for several centuries the capital of the upper part of Roman Germany), or the medieval times (when the arch bishops of Mainz were the chancellors of the Reich). The most important invention of the last 2,000 years is the invention of printing by movable types by Johannes Gutenberg, that was used without significant changes until the 20th century. The American Life Magazines has established a list of the most important events of the millennium. The invention of the printing press and the first printing of the Bible by Johannes Gutenberg, a goldsmith and businessman from the town of Mainz, in the year 1455, is the first on this table list. |
